The fourth and final season of the American television series Blackness Lightning, which is based on the DC Comics graphic symbol Jefferson Pierce / Black Lightning, premiered on The CW on February 8, 2021. The flavour is produced by Berlanti Productions, Akil Productions, Warner Bros. Idiot box, and DC Entertainment. It is set in the Arrowverse, sharing continuity with the other goggle box series of the franchise. The season was ordered in January 2020 and production began that Oct, with Salim Akil one time once more serving as showrunner.

The season continues to follow Jefferson, now a high schoolhouse chief in his second stint as the superhero Black Lightning, every bit he fights confronting local corruption in his community of Freeland. Cress Williams stars every bit Jefferson, along with principal cast members China Anne McClain, Nafessa Williams, Marvin "Krondon" Jones III, Christine Adams, Hashemite kingdom of jordan Calloway, and James Remar besides returning from previous seasons. Laura Kariuki replaces McClain as Jennifer Pierce starting with Episode 5: "The Book of Ruin: Chapter One: Picking Upward the Pieces"; McClain, nonetheless, returns for the series finale.

On January seven, 2020, The CW renewed the series for its fourth flavor. On the early renewal of Black Lightning as well as other serial, network president Mark Pedowitz released a statement reading, "These early orders for side by side season give our production teams a caput start in plotting out story arcs and a jump on hiring staff, and this likewise provides us with a strong foundation of established, fan-favorite CW shows to build on for adjacent season."[14] On November 20, 2020, The CW confirmed that the quaternary season will be the terminal season of the serial.[15]

Casting [edit]

Master bandage members Cress Williams, China Anne McClain, Nafessa Williams, Christine Adams, Marvin "Krondon" Jones Iii, Jordan Calloway, and James Remar return from previous seasons as Jefferson Pierce / Blackness Lightning, Jennifer Pierce / Lightning, Anissa Pierce / Thunder, Lynn Stewart, Tobias Whale, Khalil Payne / Painkiller, and Peter Gambi, respectively. This is the beginning season to non feature Damon Gupton as Baton Henderson. In Jan 2020, Gupton revealed that Henderson was not in the plans for the quaternary flavour and that the tertiary season would be his terminal as a series regular.[sixteen] McClain appeared in a express number of episodes in the season, equally she planned to exit the serial after the fourth season, ahead of information technology beingness announced it would exist the last season.[17] This led to the 5th episode of the season to take the character recast to Laura Kariuki.[eighteen] McClain, yet, did return for the finale.

In November 2020, Chantal Thuy, who portrays Grace Choi, was promoted to a series regular for the fourth flavor.[19]
